8. Roundtable: Awareness & Diversity—Minimum Standards and Values for Club Culture
With clubs and venues reopening, and after more than two years of intensive work, dialogue, networking, and mutual learning, we are once again focusing specifically on one of the core visions that inspired us to launch the Awareness Academy project in 2020: Awareness & Diversity—minimum standards and values for club culture.
We are now in the third year of the Awareness Academy—we launched it with the goal, among others, of working with you to establish shared values and achievable guidelines regarding anti-discrimination, awareness-raising, and the promotion of diversity and equality in Berlin’s club culture.
Despite the pandemic and the resulting state of emergency for society—and especially for our scene—the Awareness Academy has found its footing, worked hard, provided guidance, and created opportunities for dialogue, networking, and professional development, which are now being embraced with trust, great interest, and commitment. In these dialogues, we repeatedly arrive at the conclusion that an Awareness & Diversity Code of Values can be an essential and helpful tool for bringing about lasting positive change in Berlin’s club culture.
Accordingly, we would like to work with you this year to delve deeper into the development of such values and standards. This roundtable is intended to serve as the initial impetus for this process. For this reason, we will forego the usual lecture-style presentations and instead spend the three hours engaging with you through workshops and discussions. We very much hope that many of you will participate.
