Training to Become a Trainer in Awareness and Bystander Intervention for Nightlife Professionals

The approximately seven-hour training program for multipliers/trainers is aimed at employees in Berlin’s nightlife industry and addresses the topics of sexual assault in nightlife settings and its prevention through bystander intervention. Participants will learn to recognize sexual assaults and intervene confidently to prevent sexual violence and assaults, as well as to pass on this knowledge to other employees through training sessions.

The trainer certification program equips participants to confidently and effectively lead groups of people working in the nightlife industry and to provide them with training on sexual violence in nightlife, bystander intervention, and intersectionality in nightlife.

The initial focus is on personal exploration and professional development regarding the key topics, as well as on group dynamics that take into account a reflection on one’s own team structures. The next step involves exploring the role of a trainer/facilitator and acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to lead a group of 15–30 people.

The training that participants receive largely mirrors the content of the sessions they will later lead. This ensures that the facilitators are also familiar with the learners’ perspective.

Group work will focus on the topics of sexual violence in nightlife, bystander intervention, and intersectionality in nightlife, while also initiating and facilitating group dynamic processes that encourage reflection on the team’s own structures.

The training is designed for both existing groups (e.g., nightclub staff) and individuals. It is aimed at anyone working in the nightlife or party scene.

Participants will receive training on the topics listed above and will be trained as facilitators/trainers. After completing the training, they will be able to confidently recognize and address sexual assaults, as well as independently lead and train groups to make nightlife a safe place for everyone.

The training is limited to 15–20 participants and will be held online in German on:

Tuesday, November 23, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (with a one-hour break).
