Inclusive Nightlife – Anti-Discrimination Training Program for 10 Berlin Clubs, Collectives, and Festivals
We are pleased to announce that the training program focused on the important areas of awareness and diversity is entering its second round. The project “Diversity-Friendly Nightlife in Berlin” (DAB), in collaboration with various experts from the club scene, developed a comprehensive training program on anti-discrimination in clubs and offered it for the first time in 2023. In spring 2024, ten Berlin clubs, collectives, andfestivals will once again have the opportunity to receive support and funding for the development and implementation of diversity measures and awareness structures.

In addition to raising awareness, it imparts fundamental knowledge about diversity and anti-discrimination and translates this into various sectors and trades of club culture. Particular emphasis is placed on practical application. The goal of the training series is to provide clubs, collectives, and festivals with comprehensive training in awareness and diversity competencies and to support them through a consultative process during implementation.
The program includes a foundational module, followed by advanced modules with different areas of focus. The foundational module, “Basic Awareness in a Club Context,” raises awareness about diversity and discrimination and provides knowledge on awareness and anti-discrimination within club culture.
The process addresses key questions:
- What conditions must be in place at the club to ensure that a diverse crowd can party together as safely as possible?
- How can we identify different forms of discrimination in nightlife, and how can we respond to them?
- How can we establish awareness and diversity initiatives within the team?
- Where does the club's responsibility for visitors begin and end?
The Foundation modules take place in October and are held for up to 20 people from a club over over two days .
Participants should represent as wide a range of trades and levels as possible. They will then have the opportunity, in November two in-depth modules two in-depth modules at each of the other nine venues to learn together with them and engage in dialogue.
Scope of the Basic Module: Day1: 6 hours, including a break; Day 2: 3 hours
Scope of advanced modules: twomodules, each lasting 5 hours, including breaks
The advanced modules are divided into three areas:
- Job responsibilities: Booking , public relations, accessibility, outreach, doorman duties
- Forms of discrimination: gender , sexual orientation, “ethnic origin,” disability, religion and belief, social status/class, anti-Muslim racism, anti-Semitism
- Strategic Implementation: DiversityChange Management I & II, Human Resources Policy, Legal Framework
Throughout the process, clubs receive comprehensive and personalized support and guidance to help them establish sustainable diversity and awareness initiatives tailored to their specific needs and across all departments.
