Awareness Academy
The Awareness Academy addresses issues of awareness, diversity, and anti-discrimination within the Berlin Club Commission. On the one hand, it serves as an informed and qualified point of contact for stakeholders in the club culture. On the other hand, it acts as a platform for collaborative development and the sharing of knowledge, concepts, and actionable guidelines.
The Awareness Academy develops opportunities for professional development and dialogue on how to create spaces that are sensitive to discrimination and promote diversity in the cultural sector—particularly in clubs, at festivals, concerts, and open-air events. These include, among other things, regular forums such as the “Awareness & Diversity Roundtables,” workshops, and consulting and mediation services for all trades and professional groups within club culture. The goal is to work together to identify and question discriminatory mechanisms, counteract them, and advocate for respectful interaction with one another. The core tasks of the Awareness Academy are:
- Exchange and Dialogue
- Consulting and Placement
- Provision of knowledge and resources
- Reflection and Professional Development
In all these areas, the Awareness Academy works in close collaboration with people affected by discrimination, key figures in the club scene, dedicated initiatives and individuals, as well as researchers and experts.
The Awareness Academy is also always open to discussing initiatives and project ideas that fall within its areas of focus and scope. Together, we can explore options for support, implementation, and resources.
The Awareness Academy is part of the Club Culture Hub run by Clubcommission Berlin e.V., and is supported by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion, Musicboard Berlin GmbH, and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) – “Strengthening Innovation Potential in Culture – INP-III.”
