Awareness & Diversity Minimum standards and values for club culture

With clubs and venues reopening and after more than two years of intensive work, exchange, networking, and mutual learning, we are once again focusing on one of the fundamental visions with which we launched the Awareness Academy project in 2020: Awareness & Diversity Minimum Standards and Values for Club Culture.

We are now in the third year of the Awareness Academy—we started with the goal of working with you to establish common values and achievable guidelines regarding anti-discrimination, awareness work, and the promotion of diversity and equality in Berlin's club culture.

Despite the pandemic and the associated state of emergency for society and especially our scene, the Awareness Academy was able to find its footing, worked hard, provided advice, and created opportunities for dialogue, networking, and further education, which have now been accepted with trust, great interest, and commitment. In our dialogues, we repeatedly come to the conclusion that a code of values for awareness and diversity can be an essential and helpful tool for bringing about lasting positive change in Berlin's club culture.

Accordingly, we would like to work with you this year to take a closer look at the development of such values and standards. This roundtable is intended to be the first step in this process. For this reason, we will forego the usual frontal inputs and instead spend the three hours together with you in the form of workshops and discussions. We very much hope that many of you will participate.

Those who are already actively involved in awareness and diversity in club culture are just as welcome as those who are just starting out. The aim is to engage in a joint exchange to develop achievable guidelines and values with regard to awareness and diversity in club culture.

We will conduct the roundtable in German and English.
