Peer-led case consultation for Berlin clubs on how to handle incidents of discrimination (online)

As part of our ongoing evaluation of our free Awareness Academy workshop program for Berlin’s club culture, we consistently find that participants particularly value the cross-club and cross-organization exchange regarding their own challenges in the context of awareness and anti-discrimination work. At the same time, there is a growing need for support for clubs, collectives, and event organizers in dealing with specific cases of discrimination at their own events or within their own structures.

While every instance of boundary-crossing or harassment is an individual incident in a specific situation, discrimination in the club context—just as in the rest of society—is usually structural and systematic in nature. This means that the challenges and problems are similar, and when it comes to addressing and constructively dealing with incidents of discrimination, we can learn a lot from one another and support each other. We would like to address and make use of these needs and opportunities with our new format, Peer Case Consultation for Berlin Clubs, designed to help clubs deal with cases of discrimination.

The peer case consultation method, based on a systemic approach, allows us to harness a group’s collective creativity to solve problems. Within this framework, we aim to bring together individuals from various fields within Berlin’s clubs and collectives to discuss case studies from the club context through professionally facilitated mediation and to offer each other advice on how to handle incidents of discrimination. The consultation will be led by a licensed BM® mediator specializing in anti-discrimination and moderated by another person with practical experience in Berlin’s club culture.

Tuesday, June 25, 2024, 12:30–4:00 p.m., including a 30-minute break

During the three-hour session, two anonymized case studies—each lasting 90 minutes—will be discussed.

Please send us anonymized case studies from your club or collective that you would like to discuss. We will select two case studies to discuss during the session. Pleasedescribe the topic or the situation you’ve identified as a problem in as much detail as possible. To ensure confidentiality, please do not mention any specific names in your examples.
