Peer counseling for Berlin clubs and collectives on addressing incidents of discrimination
As part of our ongoing evaluation of the Awareness Academy workshop program on club culture, we have consistently found that participants value and find it helpful to exchange ideas with other clubs and industry professionals about their own challenges in the context of awareness-raising and anti-discrimination efforts. At the same time, there is a growing need for support for clubs, collectives, and event organizers in addressing specific instances of discrimination at their own events or within their own organizations.
Although every transgression or assault is an isolated incident in a specific situation, discrimination in the club context is usually structural and systematic, just as it is in the rest of society. This means that the challenges and problems are similar, and we can learn a great deal from one another and support one another in overcoming and constructively addressing incidents of discrimination. We would like to address and build upon these needs and opportunities through our new peer counseling program for Berlin clubs designed to address cases of discrimination.
Based on the systemic perspective, the peer counseling method makes it possible to harness the collective wisdom of a group to solve problems. Within this framework, we would like to bring together people from various fields—including clubs, bars, and collectives—to conduct professionally guided peer counseling sessions focused on addressing incidents of discrimination. The counseling will be led by a licensed mediator (BM®) specializing in anti-discrimination and moderated by another person with practical experience in Berlin’s club culture.

5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
During the three-hour session, two anonymized case studies, each lasting 90 minutes, will be discussed.

Please send us anonymized case studies from your club or group that you would like to discuss. Two case studies will be selected for discussion in the first session. Please describe the topic or the situation identified as a problem as precisely as possible. To ensure confidentiality, please do not mention specific names in the examples.
The event will take place in person in Berlin and will be conducted in English.
The target audience includes professionals from all areas of the club scene (bar, security, doormen, management, public relations, artist support, etc.) at cultural institutions, as well as organizers and members of collectives within the club culture scene.
Participation is free, and the number of participants is limited to 15.
