Inclusive Nightlife – Training Program on Anti-Discrimination in Clubs

We are pleased to present the new training program focused on the important areas of awareness and diversity. The project “Diversity-Friendly Nightlife in Berlin” (DAB)—a collaborative initiative between Eine Welt der Vielfalt e.V. and Clubcommission e.V.—has developed a comprehensive training program on anti-discrimination in clubs in collaboration with various experts from the club scene.

In the spring of 2023, ten Berlin clubs and venues will, for the first time, have the opportunity to receive support and funding for the development and implementation of diversity initiatives and awareness programs within their clubs.

Content In addition to raising awareness, this training series imparts fundamental knowledge about diversity and anti-discrimination and applies it to the various sectors and trades within club culture. Particular emphasis is placed on practical application. The goal of the training series is to comprehensively equip clubs and venues with awareness and diversity competencies and to provide ongoing support through a consulting service as they implement these practices.
The program includes a foundational module and, building on that, advanced modules with different focuses. The foundational module, “Basic Sensitization in the Club Context,” raises awareness of the topics of diversity and discrimination and imparts knowledge about awareness and anti-discrimination in club culture.

The introductory modules take place between mid-April and early May and are held over two days for up to 20 people from a single club. Participants should, if possible, represent a variety of trades and skill levels. They will then have the opportunity to attend two online advanced modules each, between May 15 and June 2, alongside participants from the other nine locations, to learn together and engage in dialogue.

Throughout the process, clubs receive comprehensive and personalized support and guidance to help them establish sustainable diversity and awareness initiatives tailored to their specific needs and across all departments.

The process addresses key questions:

  • What conditions must be in place at the club to ensure that a diverse crowd can party together as safely as possible?
  • How can we identify different forms of discrimination in nightlife, and how can we respond to them?
  • How can we establish awareness and diversity initiatives within the team?
  • Where does the club's responsibility for visitors begin and end?

Costs – Terms and Conditions – Registration
Participation in the program is funded by project grants; the club’s share of the cost is €3,100 per club. Five free spots are available for clubs and venues that do not have the financial resources to cover the cost.

A prerequisite for participation is the commitment to provide the necessary staff resources for participation in the introductory module (up to 20 participants per club) and at least two advanced modules per participant in the introductory module.

Applications will be accepted from February 1 through February 28, 2023. Starting March 10, 2023, clubs will receive notification of their participation. To gain as broad an understanding as possible for the program’s further development, clubs will be selected that differ from one another in terms of size, audience, musical genres, etc. Additional criteria include motivation and significance for Berlin’s club culture.
