Sexism-Free Night Research Report: Sexual Violence in European Nightlife Settings

This research examines the intersections between sexual violence, nightlife settings (e.g., party venues, going out at night), and drug use in Europe. We believe this study can enhance our understanding of sexism and rape culture across different European regions, and inform policies and practices in the nightlife sector that will lead to more egalitarian nightlife environments! 

The research activities of Sexism Free Night were based on a Europe-wide web survey designed to collect information on the prevalence of sexism and sexual violence among adults in Europe, and to analyze how these issues intersect with specific key factors such as patterns of drug use, participation in nightlife and party settings, mobility in nightlife settings, and beliefs about sexual violence. 

We asked questions about people’s nightlife experiences, taking into account the COVID-19 pandemic that was underway when the survey was launched. The time frame covered going out before the COVID-19 outbreak as well as going out during the period of social isolation (e.g., small gatherings or get-togethers at home, outdoors, or in public spaces with friends,
