Awareness as a cross-sectional task in the Clubcommission
Club culture thrives on the diversity of the communities that come together within it. The Clubcommission therefore pursues the goal of reducing discrimination and critically questioning structures in all of its projects. The network, insights, and experiences gained from the work of the Awareness Academy play a central role in this.
United We Stream, the solidarity response to COVID-19 and the global shutdown of club culture, was launched in spring 2020 by Clubcommission and its partners. Knowledge and experience from the Awareness Academy also flowed into the Awareness working group located there. Together, a manifesto was developed for the globally successful platform, which focuses on diversity in booking and awareness components.
Club Culture Day on October 3, 2020, sent a strong signal of life in times that threaten its very existence. Forty clubs and collectives were honored as part of this project for their years or even decades of commitment to Berlin's club culture. Not only did the jury's composition reflect the diverse perspectives of the club scene, but the evaluation criteria also explicitly emphasized diversity and awareness work.
