Mental Health in Clubs
Night work and irregular sleep patterns, difficulty separating work and private life, precarious employment conditions, and inappropriate and discriminatory situations when dealing with guests—according to the results of seven focus group discussions, these are just some of the challenges faced by club employees... People who work in clubs today are exposed to constant psychological pressure and stress, which can also have a negative impact on their everyday lives and lead to long-term consequences. As there are currently few services and solutions available to address these issues, Clubcommission Berlin is asking how the mental health of nightlife workers can be protected in the future and how the organizational resilience of clubs can be strengthened.
As a funded INQA project and in collaboration with partners such as Charité Berlin, the German Psychologists' Academy, FernUniversität Hagen, and the BGF Coordination Office, the Berlin Club Commission aims to improve the resilience and well-being of all club employees and operators. Suitable measures and recommendations for action will be tested in the pilot phase and then offered to all Berlin clubs.
As part of this project, targeted psychosocial interventions are being developed for seven selected pilot clubs with the aim of strengthening both the individual resilience of employees and the organizational resilience of the clubs, i.e., how clubs can create an environment that better protects their employees from the mental stress and pressure they are exposed to at work.
